Kim’s Talking Points
Go to a busy store where there are at least 180 people. Did you know that at least one person there considers him/herself transgender sufficiently to say so. He or she may be noticeable or unseen. But they are there and a part of everyday life. We always have been and will continue to be. And as you see and has been forever, we are usually indistinguishable from everyone else. We could be your aunt, cousin, grocery clerk, lawyer or neighbor. As such we present a danger to no one. It is unfortunate that several fringe groups have been included under the now umbrella term of “Transgender”. Most of us believe that some of the groups do not really belong, such as drag queens and gender fluid individuals and we accept their inclusion because we are a just group. They have been included by media and politicians from all sides for their own gain and not for our benefit. There are many untruths spoken, presented and printed about us continually. Many times these detrimental half-truths are sufficient to gain believers. As such, and it is very apparent, we must speak for ourselves, by ourselves and speak the truth. Inasmuch as there is much animosity against out just selves we need to do what we can leverage out of our own strength, both native and constructed, to further our proper cause in a positive manner as outlined in the basic principals that trans people should follow. There are many of us integrated in society and they blend in so well that you may know them and not know their secret. A secret that many want to expose and use for their own uses. Most feel that they must blend in so well so that they are not mocked, abused, restricted or utilized to further a political purpose or agenda. We have no choice but to go to great lengths to disappear. We are a true minority, and in order to survive many of us feel that we must go into hiding. Can you say that of any other minority our size is not as well represented and accepted as we are? Others are outspoken and in order to survive feel that they must bend to the political whims of negative factions or live within the confines of their own circle of transgender friends. My journey through life has been challenging, long and difficult due to the added burden of being not one sex or the other, but one thing, transgender. That burden has been carried by myself and until I transitioned, sat atop what everyone else knows as everyday life. After that I discarded one life to accept a new one, one that was in the open yet hidden and filled with secrets of who I was and am. I became a stealth, or hidden transwoman to reduce one burden yet accept another. For us that are hidden we feel that it is time to ask for acceptance into all of society. For those of us on the fringe all we ask is that we are accepted for our faults and imperfections, many are doing the best that we can. Everyday people like you accept others and their faults without question. I am not asking you to change who you are, I don’t have that right. All I ask is that you search your heart for a place to accept me as I am and for who I am, another member of society. The 180 people comes from: 180 people * 0.0058 (%) is 1.04 people

America's dirty secret, Transgender – Americas most discriminated class.
Part One: the bathroom bills. Please let me start out by saying that I am conservative in nature and also transgender. Yes the two do exist together much more than you may believe. I also believe that I should be able to live life without the encumbrances of politicians defining who I am. The swift and recent passing of anti transgender bills in several states limiting bathroom access to one's birth sex is a focused backlash at what is already America's most discriminated group of people. One of the bills goes so far as authorize paying a bounty to anyone catching a transgender person in the “wrong” bathroom. This is all under the auspices of protecting young girls. Proponents make the claim that men will dress up as women, follow girls into a restroom and molest them. To prove their point commercials aired on TV show men, dressed as men, following young girls into public bathrooms with a devious smile on their faces. Pardon me, if the bill targets transgender women why are men shown? The commercial would look very silly showing a transgender woman enter the bathroom wouldn't it? What about women following boys into a restroom? It is because men, not transgender women are the real issue that is trying to be addressed. The claim is made that men are predators and will hunt down their prey, donning a sheepskin to get inside the herd of sheep as it may. They cite five cases where men have done this. Men, not transgender women, not transgender men. None of the estimated 700,000 transgender people in America did this. America has 151,781,326 males as estimated in the 2010 census. That is 0.00000335 % of the male population targeted by these bills, wait no, it targets the 0.3%, the 700,000 transgender individuals. Many of them the same people that they are claiming to protect. These kinds of thoughts are not in the hearts of transgender men and women anymore than in the hearts of cis women and based on the claim, most cis men. It definitely is not in the heart of a transgender man, now forced into entering the woman’s bathroom looking like a man. The possibility of finding a policeman standing outside waiting for him so the opportunistic cis lady could collect a $2,500 bounty is real. Being 100% passable as who you are isn’t good enough anymore. While he doesn't face much risk of physical harm imagine, what would happen in the man’s restroom. Remember, men are defined a predators here, and will see the bounty as enabling them to take action, often it will be in a physical form. Is it now Ok for a transgender woman to be harmed, raped or killed in a restroom before the reality of these bills is realized? Is it appropriate to condone this now? These laws are not unlike laws against gun owners that don't address the fact that criminals who are not permitted to own guns illegally obtain guns and the honest gun owner are the ones who suffer. Perverts will continue on and transgender individuals will pay the price instead. Bills are being passed that harm the transgender community based on a statistic zero. Clearly the authors of the bills do not know any real transgender people, only their peer perverts. I hope that this the case and shudder to think if it is not. What next? Transgender individuals are not allowed to have jobs based on the fact that some one person in the company finds their presence objectionable? Think of where this leads to. Intolerance is a practice of the Nazi's and Taliban, not Americans. Is it possible that these fears in the hearts of the proponents are real because those thoughts of harming others are actually in their hearts? Do they think that they are protecting us from them? Those perverse thoughts and actions are not in my heart anymore than in the hearts of the general public. Kim |
