Kim’s Talking Points
Go to a busy store where there are at least 180 people. Did you know that at least one person there considers him/herself transgender sufficiently to say so. He or she may be noticeable or unseen. But they are there and a part of everyday life. We always have been and will continue to be. And as you see and has been forever, we are usually indistinguishable from everyone else. We could be your aunt, cousin, grocery clerk, lawyer or neighbor. As such we present a danger to no one. It is unfortunate that several fringe groups have been included under the now umbrella term of “Transgender”. Most of us believe that some of the groups do not really belong, such as drag queens and gender fluid individuals and we accept their inclusion because we are a just group. They have been included by media and politicians from all sides for their own gain and not for our benefit. There are many untruths spoken, presented and printed about us continually. Many times these detrimental half-truths are sufficient to gain believers. As such, and it is very apparent, we must speak for ourselves, by ourselves and speak the truth. Inasmuch as there is much animosity against out just selves we need to do what we can leverage out of our own strength, both native and constructed, to further our proper cause in a positive manner as outlined in the basic principals that trans people should follow. There are many of us integrated in society and they blend in so well that you may know them and not know their secret. A secret that many want to expose and use for their own uses. Most feel that they must blend in so well so that they are not mocked, abused, restricted or utilized to further a political purpose or agenda. We have no choice but to go to great lengths to disappear. We are a true minority, and in order to survive many of us feel that we must go into hiding. Can you say that of any other minority our size is not as well represented and accepted as we are? Others are outspoken and in order to survive feel that they must bend to the political whims of negative factions or live within the confines of their own circle of transgender friends. My journey through life has been challenging, long and difficult due to the added burden of being not one sex or the other, but one thing, transgender. That burden has been carried by myself and until I transitioned, sat atop what everyone else knows as everyday life. After that I discarded one life to accept a new one, one that was in the open yet hidden and filled with secrets of who I was and am. I became a stealth, or hidden transwoman to reduce one burden yet accept another. For us that are hidden we feel that it is time to ask for acceptance into all of society. For those of us on the fringe all we ask is that we are accepted for our faults and imperfections, many are doing the best that we can. Everyday people like you accept others and their faults without question. I am not asking you to change who you are, I don’t have that right. All I ask is that you search your heart for a place to accept me as I am and for who I am, another member of society. The 180 people comes from: 180 people * 0.0058 (%) is 1.04 people
